Mixing AMSOIL With Other Oils

AMSOIL synthetic diesel oil is fully compatible with conventional petroleum oil, so you may feel free to top them off with petroleum based oils or top off petroleum based oils with AMSOIL. However, keep in mind that mixing AMSOIL with other oils will reduce its effectiveness and will shorten oil drain intervals. Also, be sure to only mix like viscosity grades.

 

What Viscosity Should You Use?

In most cases you can simply go with the manufacturers' recommended viscosity grade. However, there is an exception (isn't there always?). AMSOIL Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil has been designed specifically to be used for applications which require diesel diesel oil specifications CG-4, CF-2 and CF. You will notice by looking at the technical specs for each oil below that the 5W-30 has a very high viscosity index of 170 which indicates that it will maintain its viscosity through a wide range of temperatures and extreme conditions.

Also note that its operating temperature range is quite broad, with a pour point of -60^o F and a flash point of 489^o F. If you were to compare you would see that this range is broader than the 15W-40 of just about any other brand of oil. You will also notice that the viscosity index of 170 listed above is leaps and bounds ahead of any other oil listed.

In addition, the extremely high quality synthetic base stocks and long life additives which are used in our Series 3000 oils assure that they will maintain their high performance qualities over thousands of trouble-free miles. However, if you decide not to go with our Series 3000 oil, you can rest assured that you will still be pleased with the performance of our standard 15W-40 and other diesel motor oils.
